The Professor Lester-Irabinna Rigney AM Aboriginal Education Grant provides a direct offset of lost income to enable students to forgo paid employment during their teaching practicums. Students will receive an increasing level of financial support each year as the length of their practicums increases, from second year to fourth year inclusive. Grants are available to all current Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students studying an eligible Education program and payment will be made based on the length of practicum placements.

Year 2 Practicum: $2,000
Year 3 Practicum: $3,000
Year 4 Practicum: $4,000

Eligibility
To be eligible for the grant‚ students must:
⦁ be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student
⦁ be undertaking a second‚ third‚ or fourth year practicum placement
⦁ be enrolled full time or part time in one of the following programs:
⦁ Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education)
⦁ Bachelor of Teaching (Primary)(Honours)
⦁ Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)(Honours)
Important information
Grant funding is limited and once all funds have been expended no further grants will be awarded.
Payment will be made upon notification of the practicum placement, from 2024 to 2026. If required to repeat a placement, students will not receive a grant for any subsequent placement attempt.
Ongoing payments are subject to the following:
⦁ Satisfactory academic performance.
⦁ Notification of the practicum placement
Grant recipients will be requested to submit a progress report in the year in which they receive the grant.
