The Mountford Scholarships were established at the University of Adelaide in 1976 through a gift from Charles P. Mountford, O.B.E., Dip.Anthropol. (Cambridge), Hon.D.Litt. (Melbourne), D.Litt. (Adelaide) in recognition of the support he received in his anthropological work by John and Hope Sloane of the United States of America. The gift was supplemented after his death with additional funds which he had been given towards his work by Mr & Mrs Hope, and from gifts from his widow, Mrs C. P. Mountford.
The scholarship supports students including those undertaking a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Anthropology, students enrolled in other undergraduate degrees with an Anthropology major as well as those pursuing an Honours or Masters by coursework in Anthropology in the College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University.
