In 1969, John Robert Barker bequeathed part of his residuary estate to the University of Adelaide to establish scholarships supporting research related to primary production in South Australia, with particular emphasis on the livestock and wool industries.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be enrolled in an Honours program undertaking a relevant research project in connection with primary production in South Australia (particularly in the livestock and wool industries)
- Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident of Australia or New Zealand Citizen
- Be enrolled on a full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place
Selection criteria
Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:
- Academic merit (GPA)
- Relevant research
- Answers to questions on the application form

- You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible to apply
- Graduates of other universities are eligible to apply for this Scholarship.
- The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
- Students receiving other Adelaide University Scholarships may apply for this Scholarship
