This scholarship is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students of Adelaide University who are enrolled full time or part-time in any undergraduate program.
Gavin Wanganeen is the first Aboriginal Australian to receive an AFL life membership for playing 300 official matches. He is also a premiership star, Brownlow medallist, five-time All Australian and Best-and-Fairest winner with Port Adelaide Football Club. Gavin Wanganeen is a role model and representative for Aboriginal youth in Australia and UniSA (now Adelaide University) was the first university in Australia which had identified a commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education in its charter.
The recipient is required to act as a positive ambassador for the scholarship to encourage support. Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance. Please note that previous recipients of any Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship are not eligible to apply for other Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarships.
Value: $5,000 per year up to a maximum of $20,000 provided the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria and maintain satisfactory academic performance. Payment will be made in two instalments of $2,500 each, after the Semester 1 and 2 census dates. Pro-rata payments will apply for part-time enrolment.

⦁ Be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Student
⦁ Be enrolled full time or part time at any undergraduate program at Adelaide University
⦁ Demonstrate financial and/or other educational barriers that impact access to study or continued study.
⦁ Provide a written statement addressing the points listed below.
Selection criteria
Recipients will be selected on the basis of financial and/or other educational barriers that impact access to study or continued study and a personal written statement. The applicant's written statement should outline:
⦁ Reasons for studying their current program.
⦁ Academic achievements.
⦁ Community service involvement.
⦁ Future career goals.
Important information
The recipient is required to act as a positive ambassador for the scholarship to encourage support. Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Please note that previous recipients of any Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship are not eligible to apply for other Gavin Wanganeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarships.
