The Finn Family Refugee Study Grant will be awarded to a student from a refugee or humanitarian background who is commencing study with Adelaide University for the first time.
The grant is available to students commencing an undergraduate or pathway program at Adelaide University.
The grant is valued at $1,500 and is designed to assist recipients meet the costs associated with study including textbooks, travel, computing equipment or other related expenses.
Applicants may be an Australian Citizen, a Permanent Resident of Australia, a New Zealand Citizen or the holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa, Temporary Protection Visa, or Bridging Visa.
Applicants would normally be enrolled in full-time study, however part-time applications will be considered with the reason for part-time study clearly outlined in the written statement.
Where a part-time recipient is selected, funds will be awarded pro rata.
Payments will be split in two instalments of $750 after the Semester 1 and Semester 2 census dates provided the recipient continues to meet the grant criteria and maintains satisfactory academic performance.
Value: $1,500
Payment will be in two instalments:
- $750 (paid after the census date for Semester 1)
- $750 (paid after the census date for Semester 2)

Eligibility and selection criteria:
⦁ Australian Citizen‚ Permanent Residents of Australia‚ Holders of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ or New Zealand Citizens.
⦁ Students from a refugee or humanitarian background.
⦁ Commencing student in an undergraduate or pathway program.
⦁ Full-time (preferred) or part-time.
⦁ Submission of a written statement.
⦁ Students who are experiencing financial and/or other educational barriers that impact access to study or continued study.
Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) outlining:
⦁ Residency/visa status history.
⦁ Academic achievements.
⦁ Why they have chosen to study their current program.
⦁ Future career goals and impact they would like to have on their chosen profession.
⦁ Financial and/or other educational barriers that impact access to study or continued study, including experience as a refugee.
⦁ How the grant will help meet study related expenses.
The grant will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement‚ students who are experiencing financial need and information provided in the written statement.
Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend a selection panel interview.
