The Dr Richard Oertel Scholarship was established in 2016 at the University of Adelaide by Ms Bronwyn Ellis to support financially disadvantaged undergraduate students either in the field of science, mathematical sciences or mathematical and computer sciences.

Value: $5,000 per year to be paid in two equal instalments.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Be commencing a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science (Honours), Bachelor of Mathematics, Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours), Bachelor of Computer Science or Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours)
- Be an Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
- Be enrolled on a full time basis in a Commonwealth Supported Place
- Demonstrate you are in financial need*
* Applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.
* Evidence of Tertiary Access Payment (TAP) application or approval does not demonstrate financial need.
Selection criteria
Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:
- Academic merit (ATAR)
- Financial need
- Answers to questions on the application form

- The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
- Students receiving other Adelaide University Scholarships may not apply for this Scholarship
