In 1986, Karen Elizabeth Halley, a special entry student to the University of Adelaide, bequeathed her overseas estate to the University for use by the Women’s Studies Department.
The Karen Halley Grant supports female postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research students in the Department of Sociology, Criminology and Gender Studies at Adelaide University.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be undertaking a postgraduate coursework or postgraduate research program within the Department of Sociology, Criminology and Gender Studies, School of Society and Culture, College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University.
- Be an Australian Citizen or a permanent resident of Australia
- Be enrolled on a full time basis
- Be a female student
- Demonstrate you are in financial need*
* Applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.

Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:
- Financial need
- Answers to questions on the application form

- The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
