In 1994, Esther Burns bequeathed one-half of her residuary estate to the University of Adelaide. Esther was a graduate of the University and a well-respected teacher who taught at Port Augusta High School in 1968 and then at Quorn Area School from 1970 until her retirement in 1976.
The Esther Burns/DECS Country Scholarships were made possible due to the generous bequest by Esther Burns which was matched by dollar-for-dollar funding by the Department for Education.
The purpose of these scholarships is to assist final-year students who are qualified to teach Science or Mathematics and who intend to complete a country teaching practicum.
