The Barefoot to Boots Refugee Grant provides encouragement and support for talented students in‚ financial need students from a refugee background as they embark on their studies. Applicants will be students from a refugee or humanitarian background who are studying any program at Adelaide University. They can be a commencing Adelaide University Pathways and Participation student‚ or a commencing undergraduate student.
Ian Smith AM‚ Chairman and Director of Barefoot to Boots‚ established this Grant in 2020. Barefoot to Boots is an Australian-based private sector NGO that supports refugees living in camps and their neighbouring host communities.
The grant funds are designed to assist recipients with their living and/or education expenses.
Value: $7,500
Payment will be in two instalments:
⦁ $3,750 (paid after the census date for Semester 1)
⦁ $3,750 (paid after the census date for Semester 2)

Eligibility
⦁ Australian Citizen‚ Permanent Resident of Australia, Holders of Permanent Humanitarian Visa‚ Temporary Resident, or New Zealand Citizen.
⦁ Refugee or Humanitarian background.
⦁ Enrolled in a Pathways and Participation program at Adelaide University or enrolled in an undergraduate program as a first-year student.
⦁ Full-time study load.
⦁ Submission of a written statement.
Selection criteria
Applicants are required to provide a written statement (maximum 500 words) detailing:
⦁ Reasons for studying their Adelaide University program and how the degree supports their future aspirations.
⦁ Their background prior to Adelaide University study.
⦁ Academic achievements.
⦁ Any financial and/or educational barriers that impact access to study or continued study.
⦁ How the grant will benefit them.
The grant will be awarded based on academic achievement‚ financial and/or educational barriers that impact access to study or continued study and information provided in the written statement.
Shortlisted applicants may be asked to attend a selection panel interview.
Important information
The second payment is conditional upon successful completion of Semester 1 courses and maintaining a Grade Point Average of 4.0 or above.
