The Baker Scholarship in Law was established in 1952 by a gift from Robert Colley Baker to the University of Adelaide for the advancement of the study of law. The scholarship was created in memory of his father, the Honourable Sir Richard Chaffey Baker, K.C.M.G., K.C., M.A., and of his brother, John Richard Baker, Esquire, B.A., LL.B.
The Baker Scholarship in Law supports postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research students undertaking the Master of Laws or PhD in Law at Adelaide University.

Value: $10,000 per year to be paid in two equal instalments.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must:
- Have completed the Bachelor of Laws program of study at The University of Adelaide or University of South Australia
- Be undertaking a Master of Laws or Doctor of Philosophy in Law
- Be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
- Be enrolled on a full-time basis
- Demonstrate you are in financial need*
* Applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide supporting documentary evidence at the time of application, e.g. details of income tested Commonwealth income support payment, such as Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY benefits, or other details of their financial circumstances.
Selection criteria
Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:
- Academic merit (GPA)
- Financial need
- Answers to questions on the application form
