The Alex Burnard Scholarship was established at the University of Adelaide in 1972 through a donation from by Mrs Olive Mary Burnard in memory of her husband, Dr David Alexander Burnard. Additional funding was bequeathed by Allan George Francis in 1987. The scholarship supports one undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student who is undertaking studies in composition within an Honours or Masters by Coursework program of study at Adelaide University.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be undertaking an Honours or Masters by coursework in composition
- Be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, New Zealand Citizen or holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
- Be enrolled on a full time basis
Selection criteria
Selection of the successful candidate will be made according to:
- Academic merit (GPA)

- There is no application process for this scholarship, it will be directly awarded
- You must meet all of the above listed criteria to be eligible
- The Scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered
- Students receiving other Adelaide University Scholarships may be eligible for this Scholarship
