ActivateU

Challenge yourself and explore your passion

Adelaide University’s Activate program offers motivated Year 12 students an exciting opportunity to experience university study while completing their SACE (or Northern Territory equivalent). You’ll study one university course per study period, and upon successful completion may be eligible to receive university credit and apply for your study to be counted towards your SACE Stage 2 completion.

The program is designed to complement your Year 12 studies, with school approval and timetabling support part of the application process. You can choose from a range of available courses offered either on campus or online. You’ll also have access to Adelaide University’s academic support, digital platforms, and student services, including mentoring.

With flexible options for a range of learners, the program builds confidence, supports academic growth, and provides you with experience before stepping into your first year of university. School endorsement and parent/guardian approval is required.

Entry for the Activate program is competitive, so not all applicants will receive a place. If you’re unsure about your eligibility or have any questions, email activate@study.adelaideuni.edu.au.

If you’re a Year 11 student interested in undertaking the Activate program in 2026, please submit your application by 22 January 2026.

Eligibility

Year 12 students with a B grade or higher across all Stage 1 (and Stage 2, if applicable) subjects are eligible to apply.

Adelaide University is committed to providing accessible education for learners of all backgrounds. To meet this commitment, the Activate Program has additional places available to students eligible to receive adjustment factors under the SATAC Universities Equity Scheme.

FAQs

Each course offered through Activate is the equivalent of a SACE Stage 2 10-credit subject. It’s important to note that SACE have approved all Activate courses for inclusion in Recognised Learning, however please ensure that you check your course selections for SACE precluded combinations. You can check this in the course lists above.

Grades will count towards the students’ Selection Rank as agreed to by the SACE Board:

  • High Distinction = 10.0
  • Distinction = 9.9
  • Credit = 9.0
  • P1 = 7.9.

Fully funded scholarships will be available for all students who are accepted into the Adelaide University Activate Program.

Students typically study one university subject per study period. Each course has a time commitment similar to a Year 12 subject (approximately 10–12 hours per week).

Year 12 students with a B grade or higher across all Stage 1 (and Stage 2 if applicable) subjects are eligible to apply. School endorsement and parent/guardian approval is required. A portion of offers will take into account regional, school, and personal equity factors, consistent with the Universities Equity Scheme outlined by SATAC.

The SATAC Universities Equity Scheme exists to support students who may be disadvantaged due to their location, school context, or personal circumstances. Visit the SATAC website for more information regarding individual factors.

As part of your application, you’ll be required to answer two questions that make up your personal statement, with each response limited to 200 words.

  1. Why do you want to be part of the Activate program, and what has motivated your choice of subjects?
  2. How would participation in the Activate program enable you to achieve your future goals?

We recommend that you undertake one subject per study period, with two subjects total for the program.

Applications for the 2026 Activate program are limited to students completing their SACE within South Australia and the Northern Territory.

If you want to apply for SACE Stage 2 recognition of your studies, you’ll need to submit an application form to SACE for approval (Form 12), with support from your school mentor teacher.

You will need to submit this form twice:

  • Before commencing your studies – select ‘Step 1: Request for pre-approval’ under Stage 2 category and provide the details of your Adelaide University Activate course
  • After completing your studies – select ‘Step 2: Confirmation of completion’ and attach a transcript of your results.

While students have access to a range of university support services, your guidance will play an important role in helping them succeed throughout the program. This includes endorsing applications, checking in with your student(s) regularly, and reaching out early if you have any questions or concerns so we can work through them together.

For any specific questions, please contact the Activate team at activate@study.adelaideuni.edu.au.
