When submitting your application, you will be asked to nominate six courses per semester that you would like to study at Adelaide University. Even though you will only enrol into a maximum of four courses per semester, having additional courses approved provides flexibility in case of timetable clashes, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Adelaide University has multiple campuses in metropolitan and regional locations, with courses delivered across one or several of these campuses. You can study at more than one campus, though we suggest you keep your selection to a maximum of two campuses, as it can become difficult to manage classes otherwise.

Please note: Medicine and dentistry courses are not available to study abroad or exchange students unless supported by a specific agreement. Certain other courses may also be restricted and unavailable to study abroad and exchange students.

Exchange students must be nominated by their home university before applying to Adelaide University. Contact your home institution to find out about your exchange program and student application process.

Once you’ve been nominated by your home university, you will receive an email with instructions and a link to the online application system.

Your selected courses will be assessed, and you will receive an Offer Letter once your courses are approved. You may be asked to select additional courses during the assessment process if our admissions team are unable to approve the courses you initially selected.

Whether you’re studying as an exchange or study abroad student, there will be other costs that you’ll need to consider.

Life in Adelaide is relatively affordable compared to many other Australian capital cities. As a student, you’ll benefit from discounted fares on public transport, as international and local students pay the same fare. You’ll also have access to numerous discounts including on festivals, movies, and technology.

Accommodation is another significant expense – but Adelaide University students have access to a range of options, so you’ll be able to find accommodation that suits your needs and budget. Visit the Accommodation webpage to find out more about the options available.

You can refer to StudyAdelaide's cost of living information to begin planning for your expected living costs in Adelaide.

Other costs to budget for include:

Overseas Student Health Cover

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is compulsory for all international students. You can purchase cover through Adelaide University's preferred provider or you may choose your own provider. However, there are some exceptions: you don't need OSHC if you’re covered under a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement. This includes students from Belgium, Norway, and Sweden. Visit the Australian Government’s Private Health website to learn more.

It’s also strongly advised that Study Abroad and Exchange students have comprehensive travel insurance cover for the length of their stay in Australia.

Visas

Study Abroad and Exchange students are required to apply for a non-award student visa depending on length of stay and purpose of the visit. Additional costs will apply.

Flights and travel

The cost of a return flight to Adelaide varies dramatically depending on where you’re coming from, so make sure you factor this into your budget. Adelaide is also a great base for you to explore other parts of Australia, so don’t forget to include some funds for extra travel if you can!

Study materials

It’s a good idea to allow AUD$250 - $500 per semester for the cost of textbooks and other basic study materials. If you’re studying specialist courses, you may also all incur costs for specialist study materials and/or field trips. Visit the Non-tuition fees webpage for more information.

Visit the Preparing to come to Australia webpage for more information.

You might like to consider part-time work while you’re studying in Adelaide. In accordance with your student visa, you may be entitled to work a maximum of 48 hours a fortnight (equivalent to approximately three full days per week).

For information on the permission to work arrangements for student visa holders, please visit the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs website.

Part-time work can help to offset the cost of living, and it’s an excellent way to meet new people, improve your English skills, and broaden your understanding of Australian culture.
