Your adventure starts here

Congratulations on making the life-changing decision to study overseas! Here you’ll find key information to help guide you through the application, registration and pre-departure process. While every global learning experience is unique, there are similarities across them all.

To begin, make sure to visit the Semester exchange and Short-term programs webpages for key information and application instructions for different program types.

Good planning and preparation are the key to a successful overseas experience, no matter which program and destination you choose. Make sure you read all communications from your home university, provided in MyGlobal, or sent from your host university or provider.

If you're unsure about anything you've been asked to do, please get in touch. The Global Learning team is here to guide you before you leave, while you’re overseas, and even when you return from your experience.

MyGlobal

MyGlobal is the online application system used to manage students’ applications for most Adelaide University exchange and short-term programs. You will apply for Global Learning managed programs through MyGlobal.

You can set up an applicant profile and complete applicant checklists for your chosen program that contain questionnaires and important information. For relevant programs, you will also be able to apply for credit approval in MyGlobal.

Registering in MyGlobal

If you're planning to go on exchange or a Global Learning managed short-term program, you’ll be required to register and apply for your chosen program using MyGlobal. You’ll be able to log in to check the progress of any applications, and notifications will be sent to the email address you use to register.

Other programs

If you’re interested in studying at an overseas university or provider that is not listed in MyGlobal, please contact us in the first instance.

Before getting in touch, we recommend you review the currently available programs to see if there are any that may be suitable. It is anticipated more programs will be added in due course.

International students

For the most part, international students enjoy the same opportunities as domestic Australian students when it comes to global learning experiences. You can apply to go on exchange or an approved short-term program and standard selection criteria will apply to you.

If you're an international student studying an Adelaide University degree, please consider the following points before applying:

  • You are obliged to complete your Adelaide University degree within the duration of your Australian student visa. Undertaking a global learning experience does not exempt you from this obligation.

  • It is your responsibility to understand the impact overseas studies will have on your visa and/or post-study employment prospects.

  • You may be required to take a TOEFL/IELTS test at your own expense to apply to some partner universities or providers.

  • Some overseas partners may not permit applications from students who are or have been citizens or residents of that country.

  • Some funding options are restricted based on citizenship (e.g. OS-HELP and New Colombo Plan).

  • Sponsored students must have permission from their Sponsor prior to applying for a global learning program.

  • Visa requirements for your host country may be different for you than those of other students travelling on the same program as you. Ensure that you fully understand the requirements for your own travel.

We recommend speaking with the Global Learning team prior to submitting an application.

Students with a disability

Students who have a disability or ongoing medical condition can and do go on global learning experiences. Disabilities and conditions may include learning difficulties, medical conditions, mental illness (including anxiety and depression), sensory impairments (e.g. vision or hearing), or mobility issues.

To help you work through possible considerations in relation to your specific needs, please contact the Disability Support service at your foundation university.

We also recommend that you notify the Global Learning team of your specific requirements, either at the time of application or earlier. This allows us to do everything possible to help you find an appropriate program or host institution that can support your needs. Services and processes can differ substantially overseas, and by initiating contact early you can maximise your chances of finding a suitable experience and/or host institution.
