ELC Connections Volunteers are friendly members of the community who support international students during ELC Connections Program activities and events. They help create a welcoming, relaxed environment where students can practise English, share cultures, and build confidence. Most importantly, they’re here to connect!

Why become a volunteer?

Volunteering with the ELC Connections program is a rewarding way to meet international students from around the world and develop cross-cultural communication skills, intercultural awareness and understanding.  

You’ll gain valuable community and volunteer experience, meet new people and build meaningful connections and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Anyone who enjoys meeting new people, supporting international students, and engaging in cultural exchange is welcome to apply. You don’t need previous volunteer experience.

No, anyone can apply to be a Connections volunteer.

Volunteers support and engage with international students during Connections Program activities. This may include chatting with students, helping lead activities, and creating a friendly, inclusive environment. 

Volunteering is flexible. You can choose which activities you’d like to participate in, depending on your availability. 

No special skills are required. A friendly attitude, openness to different cultures, and willingness to communicate are the most important things. 

Yes. Volunteers receive information and guidance before participating in activities, and ELC staff are always present to support you. 

Yes. Volunteering with the ELC Connections Program can be a valuable addition to your CV and help build intercultural and communication skills. 

No. A Working With Children Check is not required for this role, as all ELC students participating in the Connections Program are over 18 years of age.
