University-wide elective courses
Choosing open electives
Some degrees contain space for ‘open’ or ‘free’ electives. This allows students to broaden their studies and acquire concepts, skills, and knowledge beyond their specialist teaching that can complement their overall learning.
An open elective allows you to choose from any course, provided you have met the prerequisites, is not incompatible with another course you have taken or need to take, and it is not restricted for students enrolled into a particular degree (for example, many Law, Veterinary, Nursing and Medicine courses cannot be taken unless you are doing the degree).
The courses listed below are a summary of all courses suitable to be taken as an open elective in 2026. You can click on the links to find out more about the course. Remember:
- This elective course list is created and posted as a guide only.
- It is the responsibility of the student to check the most up to date course information, prerequisites, teaching schedule and enrolment restrictions.
- It is the responsibility of the student to enrol according to the Program Schedule/Rules for their program, and/or in line with their transition study plan.
- The courses available as electives are subject to change.
