What you'll learn
Adelaide University’s Master of Public Health provides you with a comprehensive foundation in key public health disciplines, including epidemiology, biostatistics, social and behavioural health sciences, health promotion, environmental and occupational health sciences, global public health and health systems management.
Over two years of full-time study, you’ll develop your ability to think critically, collaborate effectively, advocate for change and creatively solve complex problems – all while learning to make a meaningful impact on population health.
Core subjects include:
- Introduction to epidemiology
- Introduction to biostatistics
- Global public health
- Environmental and occupational health
- Promoting health in individuals and populations
- Evaluation for public health
- Qualitative research methods in health
- Professional practice placement, dissertation or thesis.
In your second year, you’ll choose one of four pathways to specialise your study:
Research Dissertation pathway
In the Research Dissertation pathway, you'll complete courses to the value of 96 units:
- Core courses to the value of 60 units.
- Dissertation to the value of 24 units.
- Electives to the value of 12 units.
Research Thesis pathway
In the Research Thesis pathway, you'll complete courses to the value of 96 units:
- Core courses to the value of 42 units.
- Thesis to the value of 48 units.
- Electives to the value of 6 units.
Professional Practice pathway
In the Professional Practice pathway, you'll complete courses to the value of 96 units:
- Core courses to the value of 54 units.
- Professional practice placement to the value of 24 units.
- Electives to the value of 18 units.
Professional Coursework pathway
In the Professional Coursework pathway, you'll complete courses to the value of 96 units:
- Core courses to the value of 54 units.
- Applied Professional Skills Project to the value of 24 Units
- Electives to the value of 18 units.
