program overview

Overview

Adelaide University’s Master of Professional Engineering (Mining) is designed to challenge and build on your existing skillset. Be equipped with the knowledge to take your mining engineering career to the next level.

You’ll study advanced courses in mine automation, geomechanics, mine safety engineering, resource estimation and more. Core courses in engineering management and data analytics enable you to deepen and formalise your project management expertise.

Our range of electives give you the freedom to tailor your studies to your specific interests and career goals. Whether that’s metallurgical processes, geotechnics, soil and groundwater remediation or environmental sustainability – you’ll discover plenty of options.

Our engineering degrees are deeply practical. Put your learning into practice through capstone design projects, a major research project and up to 450 hours of industry placement. Graduate with the advanced technical and professional skills needed to achieve your career goals.

What you'll learn

Study an engineering degree that is designed and structured with both a foundation and extension year. Whether you have professional experience or previous relevant educational qualifications, you may be eligible to receive credit for the first year and progress straight into second year.

Your first year covers essential mining engineering knowledge and theory in mining systems, resource estimation and mine planning, geomechanics and mine safety engineering. You’ll also hone your project management skills and complete courses in engineering data analytics and engineering management.

Get hands-on and build important relationships. Undertake up to 450 hours of professional industry placement, starting in your first year. Collaborate with experts in the field on major projects and grow your skillset.

In second year, you’ll take advanced courses in mine automation, mining and environment and rock excavation engineering. You will also complete two elective courses.

Electives are available in a wide range of areas, such as:

  • Environmental planning, climate change and sustainability
  • Geotechnical engineering
  • Metallurgical processes
  • Remediation of soil and groundwater pollution.

Complete your studies and apply your skills and specialised knowledge in both a major research project and capstone engineering design project. You’ll graduate well-rounded with expert knowledge in research and application.

You’ll be able to complete majority of first year common courses at either our Adelaide City or Mawson Lakes Campus with some potential cross-campus study required. Throughout your degree, you’ll gain access to cutting-edge facilities across both campus locations to enhance your overall learning experience.
