Accreditation
This program is accredited by the Legal Practitioners Education and Admission Council (LPEAC). To be admitted to legal practice, graduates are required to fulfil the practical requirements for admission, which includes the completion of the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
What courses you'll study
Complete 240 units comprising:
- 180 units for Core courses, and
- 60 units for Electives
Complete 180 units comprising:
- 168 units for all Program core, and
- 12 units from Core selectives
Notes
- The Laws Double Degree (Honours) comprises 240 units and includes: 168 units from the Bachelor of Laws program; and 72 units from the Bachelor of Arts (History and Global Politics) program.
- All students in the College of Business and Law who, as part of a course, undertake activities where interaction with clients/the public/an external organisation are required, such as industry placements or clinical placement, must demonstrate that they have a current National Police Clearance, which is valid for the duration of the course. External placement providers may also require a current DHS - Working with Children Check (WWCC), which is valid for the duration of the course. The National Police Check will list disclosable court outcomes that may prevent clinical placement/industry placement involvement, requiring withdrawal from the course.
- Students must complete the requirements of each degree as specified in the relevant program schedule to receive both degree parchments.
- SOCI3032 - Justice & Society Study Tour B can be chosen in place of an elective course as part of this program. Additional fees apply for the study tour component of this course, and enrolment is conditional upon successful application in a competitive Expression of Interest process as well as successful completion of 48 units.
- Students planning to study a language as a major will be required to consult with their Program Director about their study plan.
- Students may complete the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with the College of Business and Law or an alternative approved provider instead of SOCI5010 - Research Methodologies and Methods and SOCI5009 - Honours Thesis 1 and apply for 24 units of credit towards their Bachelor or Laws (Honours) program. Students wishing to complete alternative advanced level studies should seek advice from the Program Director. The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice option is not available to international students studying in Australia on a student visa.
