Entry requirements
Admission criteria
To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.
Secondary education (Year 12)
- Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
- Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.
Higher education study
- Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program.
English language entry requirements
In addition, international students who speak English as an additional language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at Adelaide University. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Our Bachelor of Media and Communication majoring in Digital and Social Media Storytelling focuses on digital media texts, networks and platforms. You’ll learn how to optimise these spaces for creative storytelling and media production.
Be introduced to key theories and concepts to build a skillset in image building, branding and narrative strategies. Put your skills into practice by creating digital images and study how stories are told using digital imagery. Draw on the history of various forms of entertainment across a range of contexts, topics and formats. Explore social media applications from a range of perspectives, considering the influence and capabilities of each.

What you'll learn
In this degree, you’ll learn how to create and utilise a range of digital formats to bring stories to life. This includes creating specific digital imagery to captivate audiences and convey messages. Grasp the contextual, technical and conceptual knowledge required to tell image and audio-focused stories. Equipped with advanced knowledge in social media trends, you’ll learn how to research, create and evaluate posts for promotional activities.
In second year, you’ll be a part of an industry-focused project and learn how to create professional standard work. Courses covering communication research methodologies will ensure your work is guided by current practices in the field. Learn the art of effective communication and apply this to your personally curated digital stories.
Building on theoretical concepts in third year, you’ll undertake a professional experience where, under the guidance of academic professionals and industry creatives, you will hone your social media and storytelling skills.
Learn how current technologies are shaping the way audiences are influenced. Your major will also explore immersive media and three-dimensional, podcast and audio and video storytelling. Your work will culminate in a final capstone project where you will present on a topic of interest from your studies.

Study hours
Your courses will require a combination of different learning formats, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals.
