Entry requirements
Admission criteria
To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.
Secondary education (Year 12)
- Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Higher education study
- Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program in an undergraduate diploma (AQF level 5) or higher.
English language entry requirements
In addition, international students who speak English as an additional language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at Adelaide University. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.
- IELTS Overall 7
- IELTS Reading 7
- IELTS Listening 7
- IELTS Speaking 7
- IELTS Writing 7

Why Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Bachelor of Business?
Empower yourself with both legal and business acumen.
With complex problem-solving skills, you’ll help people navigate legal matters, championing their causes with integrity and dedication.
You’ll also gain knowledge across essential disciplines of business including accounting, people management, marketing principles, strategic decision making and corporate law.
Engage with industry. Explore professional careers in sectors aligned with your interests. Emerge as a responsible and globally conscious leader.

Overview
Business studies is all about managing people and projects, and strategic decision-making, while law ensures those strategies align with ethical and legal standards. The two work hand-in-hand for diverse careers in law, finance, consulting, government and the corporate world.
You’ll learn financial planning, entrepreneurial and operational strategies, balanced by an understanding of liabilities, how to mitigate risk, and navigate tax systems and compliance. You’ll explore legal principles in Australian law – and how and why laws change over time.
Business decisions often require an understanding of corporate law, contract law, and intellectual property rights. Legal training will help you navigate regulations, draft contracts and ensure compliance.
Gain a competitive edge by combining law with business and graduate with two degrees in just five years.

You’ll also practise technical drafting for court documents, client communication and advocacy skills – so you’ll be ready to step into the legal profession understanding dispute resolution and evidence.
Examine laws in Australia today and build strong research skills to propose legal solutions to contemporary issues. Investigate how the Australian justice system deals with criminal responsibility.
You’ll unpack legal topics to broaden your understanding of the law, practise legal problem solving and analysis, and choose electives suited to your individual interests and career aspirations.
From your first year, you’ll be introduced to fundamental legal and ethical principles of business. Explore courses on decision-making, financial and managerial accounting and the role of management in planning, organising and leading. You’ll build an understanding of broad economic concepts and key marketing activities in the modern economy.
Throughout your studies, you’ll build practical skills and have the opportunity to take part in community projects, clinical legal education, internships, study tours and mooting.

Career outcomes
Leverage your expertise in both law and business for a rewarding career. You could work as a corporate lawyer, in-house counsel, commercial litigator, or mergers and acquisitions specialist. You might ensure businesses comply with Australian laws and regulations, such as those enforced by ASIC, ACCC, or APRA. Perhaps you’ll advise organisations on corporate financing agreements or financial risk mitigation.
You could also be a:
- Employee relations manager
- Commercial manager
- Settlement agent
- Financial analyst
- Legal administrator
- Negotiator or mediator
- Business consultant
- Contract administrator
- Entrepreneur.
Industry trends
Increased regulation in industries like finance, technology and healthcare is driving demand for compliance officers, regulatory specialists and risk managers (Stratsys, 2024). Companies are increasingly hiring in-house legal teams to more cost-effectively handle contracts, governance and risk management (Deloitte, 2024 and Barclay Simpson, 2024). Demand for experts in environmental, social and governance (ESG) compliance is surging with the anticipated introduction of mandatory climate-related financial disclosures (Guthrie Legal, 2024). Jobs for solicitors in Australia also have long-term trends of strong growth (Jobs and Skills Outlook, 2023).
Accreditation
Adelaide University is working through relevant approvals for program accreditation ahead of students commencing in 2026.
