Why Bachelor of Cyber Security?

If cybercrime were classified as a national economy, it would be the world’s third largest – right after the United States and China. With projected costs exceeding $10.5 trillion annually (Forbes), cyber security experts are essential to defend our digital frontier.

Digital technology underpins every aspect of society – from healthcare to energy, banking and education – but it also leaves us vulnerable to malicious attacks. As cybercrime grows, demand for cyber security experts and countermeasures rises.

Our Bachelor of Cyber Security unlocks this booming and fast-paced sector for you. Develop essential tech skills to prevent cyber attacks, protect computer systems and safeguard data. By mastering cyber security through real-world scenarios, you’ll become a vital player in protecting our digital way of life.

program overview

Overview

Our Bachelor of Cyber Security equips you with the knowledge to protect digital systems and data. You will gain a solid understanding of cyber security practices, software, systems and networking.

Learn how to identify and stop cyber threats, manage risks and protect data. Study a broad combination of courses covering foundational IT knowledge, security foundations, governance, risk and compliance, and technically related cyber courses.

You’ll also have the option to major in either Governance, Risk and Compliance or Technology. Further into your degree, fine-tune these skills through collaborative projects based on real-life cyber-attacks.

Cyber security professionals can be found working in a vast array of sectors – including healthcare, finance, government, defence, telecoms, aerospace and energy, to name a few. With a mix of critical thinking and technical skills, you can breach the cyber security industry to safeguard our digital society.

What you'll learn

In this program, you will explore the core principles and practices of cyber security, starting with foundational courses that will introduce you to the latest advancements in technology and equip you with essential fundamental skills. As you progress, you’ll gain a solid understanding of structured data and information technology systems, which are crucial for managing and securing data within various IT infrastructures.

The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of cybersecurity topics including:

  • Security Foundations
  • Network Foundations
  • Cyber Law, Policy and Privacy
  • Human, Organisational and Societal Aspects.

You'll learn about threat identification and mitigation strategies, and gain a deep understanding of networking protocols and architectures. Our academics will also guide you through the legal, ethical, and human factors in cybersecurity – ensuring you are well-versed in the broader implications of your work.

You will then get to select from a range of cyber related courses which spark your interest, ranging from technical courses such as malware and attack technologies, to information assurance and risk management – and everything in between. You'll be the architect of your own Bachelor of Cyber Security based on personal interests and career aspirations.

The program also includes practical components such as the ICT Capstone Projects, where you’ll apply your knowledge to real-world cybersecurity problems. Round out your education with professional communication, business and teamwork courses, preparing you to work effectively in professional environments and collaborate with diverse teams.
