Entry requirements
Admission criteria
To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.
Secondary education (Year 12)
- Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
- Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.
Higher education study
- Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program.
English language entry requirements
In addition, international students who speak English as an additional language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at Adelaide University. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

In your Social Research and Policy Analysis major, strengthen your skills and understanding of applied social research methods, data analytics, policy development and evaluation. Overview
Explore the social and behavioural science of criminology. Examine contemporary criminal justice issues in Australia. Be informed by the latest thinking and most up-to-date developments in criminology and criminal justice. Study the key principles of criminal law and procedures including criminal responsibility, defences, bail and evidence and the links to policing, punishment and victimisation.
Develop your understanding of research methods to inform policy design and analysis. Investigate different ways of doing research, including how to design ethical studies that address pressing criminal justice challenges. What you'll learn
With our Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice majoring in Social Research and Policy Analysis, you’ll learn about the major institutions in the criminal justice system including the role of government agencies and social organisations in developing policies and practices of punishment.
You’ll focus on current sector issues and contemporary approaches to practice, graduating with specialised knowledge in:

In your first year, you’ll be introduced to key concepts in criminology and criminal justice, crime problems in Australia and research methods before examining contemporary social problems.
Your second year will focus on policing crime, punishment and crime control, and research methods in the social sciences. .
In your final year, study contemporary issues in criminology and policy solutions to address real-world problems. You’ll develop analytical techniques to measure impacts of policy intervention before completing an internship where you’ll explore career pathways linked to your interests and expertise via mentoring and networking experiences with one or more partner organisations.

Your campus

Study hours
Your courses will require a combination of different learning formats, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals.
