Course overview

This course will expand students' knowledge and skills of glass by working with hot glass and glassblowing. Students will develop advanced skills in glass work including working with hot glass and glassblowing; equipment, techniques and processes of cold working equipment, molten glass and the glassblowing process to create utilitarian and sculptural works through individual and group projects.

Course learning outcomes

  • Execute technical skills and apply material processes in the production of contemporary art objects using hot glass, glass blowing techniques and cold working equipment.
  • Critique the conceptual and theoretical frameworks that underpin contemporary art practice in the use of hot glass production.
  • Implement knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements of the Glass studio and/or workshop and in the manufacture of contemporary art objects.
