Course overview

This course will familiarise students with the conceptual and procedural methodologies required in studio practice, to acquaint students with the language of painting through studio theory and practice and to familiarise students with safe work practices in the painting studios. Students will investigate and experiment with a variety of contemporary painting processes and materials and be introduced to the theoretical and conceptual frameworks that underpin contemporary painting practice.

Course learning outcomes

  • Use technical skills and material processes in the production of contemporary art using innovative painting methods and materials.
  • Summarise the conceptual and theoretical frameworks that underpin contemporary painting practice and the use of non-traditional media.
  • Employ knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements of the Painting studio and in the manufacture of contemporary art.
