Course overview

This course will further develop students' knowledge of the creation of printed and dyed textiles and the role of textiles in contemporary culture. Students will further develop knowledge on textile terms and conventions, aspects of textile history and theory. Through the analysis of set project material, the students will develop visual research skills and be able to summarise the intention statements for the project. The students will also apply safe work procedures in the printing and dying processes, and simple cloth construction techniques.

Course learning outcomes

  • Execute technical skills and apply material processes in the production of contemporary art objects using printed and dyed textiles.
  • Critique the conceptual and theoretical frameworks that underpin contemporary art practice and the role of textiles in contemporary culture.
  • Implement knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements of the Textiles studio and in the manufacture of contemporary art objects.
