Course overview

The aim of the course is to provide veterinary students with the necessary theoretical and practical framework to support their progression towards competence in cattle, sheep, goats, deer and camelids medicine at both individual and herd or flock level, and to ensure readiness for the final year rotation in production animal practice.

Course learning outcomes

  • Explain the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of important diseases in the individual or a population of cattle, sheep, goats, deer and camelids.
  • Devise appropriate herd/flock health plans for cattle, sheep, goats, deer and camelids.
  • Apply the principles of population medicine and production in terms of investigation, biosecurity and communication.
  • Describe the common surgical procedures in cattle, sheep, goats, deer and camelids practice.
