Course overview
Veterinary Technologists in practice utilise and apply their acquired knowledge and skill on a daily basis to assist the veterinary team in providing high quality health care for their patients, plus support and education to their clients. In this core course, Veterinary Technology students will employ their existing knowledge and skill in the real life clinical environment of the University's veterinary teaching hospitals and external placements to refine their knowledge and proficiency in all aspects of patient care. Students will complete a total of 240 hours of work placement.
Course learning outcomes
- Promote safe and professional practice by applying WHS principles, legislation, and best practice standards for safety, quality, and biosecurity in diverse workplace settings
- Apply ethical and professional standards by upholding codes of conduct, using evidence-based approaches, keeping accurate records, and reflecting on performance and feedback to support continuous improvement
- Deliver person- and animal-centred care by planning and implementing evidence-based approaches that consider welfare, wellbeing, ethical practice, and the needs of different species, clients, and contexts
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with clients, colleagues, and communities by demonstrating professionalism, empathy, adaptability, cultural safety, and inclusive practice that values equity, diversity, inclusion
- Demonstrate professional competence and problem-solving by applying critical thinking and adaptability to perform, evaluate, and improve tasks across veterinary nursing, technology, and related professional roles, informed by research, innovation, and best practice.
