Course overview
The aim of this course is to equip learners with foundational statistical knowledge and practical skills in data analysis using the R programming language, with emphasis on contemporary applications of statistical modelling techniques to a wide range of real-world situations. Learners will be developing problem-solving and communication skills to enable them to effectively analyse and interpret data, make informed decisions, and communicate findings to support evidence-based practice in science and related disciplines.

Course learning outcomes
- Discuss study design in a variety of scenarios drawn from scientific research and industry including distinguishing between experimental and observational studies, identifying potential sampling biases, and proposing scientific and statistical hypotheses.
- Identify and apply appropriate statistical techniques to analyse data from scenarios drawn from scientific research and industry.
- Interpret and describe data and statistical analysis of data and communicate results to both technical and general audiences using reproducible reporting tools.
- Perform probability calculations and analyse data to produce statistical analyses and visualisations using the statistical software R.
