Course overview
In this course, students will develop novice to intermediate level competency as assessed by the COMPASS (2013) tool. Students will undertake speech pathology clinical practice to develop competency aligned to the Competency Assessment in Speech Pathology (COMPASS). This course will facilitate the development of knowledge, skills and attributes, in the management of paediatric or adult clients in community, health and/or education settings working towards readiness to enter the profession. Students will be expected to demonstrate between novice to intermediate level competency by the end of this placement.
Course learning outcomes
- Plan and implement appropriate evidence based speech pathology assessment and intervention for clients in community, health and/or education settings.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with clients and carers from a wide range of cultures to deliver client centred care within an interprofessional team.
- Evaluate own performance and learning using reflective practice and recommend appropriate action plans to enhance current and future practice.
- Integrate theoretical and clinical knowledge to achieve approaching intermediate level competency with either the adult or paediatric population.
