Course overview

This course will enable students to understand the structures and functions of sporting organisations and their role in the provision of sporting competitions and sports events. Management of sporting organisations and sporting events; the importance of all stakeholders including government, sponsors, broadcasters, elite athletes and the sports consumer in the provision of sporting events; the event planning process, event delivery and the impacts associated with sporting events.

Course learning outcomes

  • Evaluate the structures and functions of state and national sporting organisations and their role in the delivery of sporting events and competitions.
  • Analyse the importance of the varying types of sports consumer and other stakeholders of sport events.
  • Evaluate the success of sport event promotional activities.
  • Plan, organise and evaluate a sporting event.
  • Determine the impact (social, cultural, economical, environmental) of a sporting event.
  • Determine the impact of media and broadcasting on sporting events and competitions.
  • Develop case studies on selected sporting organisations and sporting events.
