Course overview
Develop students abilities in the field of professional outdoor leadership in a bush environment. Students will learn to manage risk, instruct safe practices, and respond to critical incidents including injury and search & rescue. Develop skills and knowledge as an Outdoor Education Practitioner including structured experiential learning. Develop advanced skills and knowledge in navigation practice and teaching. Develop skills to prepare for and lead an extended light-weight expedition in a remote bush setting for educational purposes.
- Day 1: Course Planning
- Day 2: Practitioner Theory & Practice Essentials
- Day 3: Navigation Peer-Teaching
- Day 4: Incident Response
- Days 5-7: Navigation & Incident Response Intensive
- Day 8: Trip Enrichment, Pedagogies And Sustainability
- Day 9: Field Trip Planning & Review
- Days 10-13: Mount Remarkable Field Trip
Course learning outcomes
- Apply and adapt skills and knowledge in a complex environment to (independently) lead, guide andinstruct in safe outdoor travel in an outdoor activity such as bushwalking
- Plan and implement an activity in a bush setting such as bushwalking
- Critically analyse and then evaluate a range of teaching and learning methods in bush environments
- Perform a comprehensive risk assessment in a complex environment
