Course overview

This course aims to increase understanding of the sport governance concepts, and the ethics and principles of good governance and leadership. Designed to enhance awareness of both what is considered contemporary leadership, and also students will be required to explore their own self-awareness, preparing them for success as a team member, and in leadership roles as their careers progress.

Course learning outcomes

  • Distinguish the characteristics of effective leadership and governance, and ethical practice
  • Critique the issues facing sport leaders in governance and management of sporting organisations
  • Apply theories of best practice governance, leadership and team building
  • Critically evaluate the major leadership and motivation theories
