Course overview

This course aims to explore the place of physical activity in a range of populations from a health and wellbeing perspective. Content surrounds a range of physical activities and the health benefits and holistic wellbeing it offers through physical activity participation across the lifespan. The course will develop key skills in measuring physical activity levels, data analysis, digital literacy and teaching and learning a range of physical activities. Students will consider the place of lifelong physical activity and gain the knowledge and skills in planning and delivering physical activities to populations across the lifespan in a range of settings, as well as specifically to secondary school students aligned with the Australian curriculum.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of physical activity, the health benefits of regular physical activity across the lifespan, aligned with the dimensions of wellbeing
  • Explore and identify trends of participation in physical activity in different demographics, analysing strategies to promote uptake of regular physical activity
  • Apply the requisite knowledge and skills to develop and teach an effective series of lifelong physical activities to primary and/or middle years school children
  • Evaluate pedagogical practices influencing the development of confident and competent movers through a range of lifelong physical activities
