Course overview
In this course students will examine and apply research methodologies and align them to social issues to inform and recreate social work practice, knowledge and research. Students will develop contemporary knowledge of the traditions and philosophical underpinnings of traditional and new social science research methodologies with a specialised knowledge of constructing research problems and questions, analysing methodologies, data and qualitative methods. Students will utilise this knowledge to relate data to social questions and present data in a research context.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically align research methodologies and their theoretical underpinnings to social questions and issues.
- Critically use social science research methodologies that explore multiple aspects of lived experience through tools like visual methodologies and narrative and memory.
- Demonstrate the cognitive, technical and creative skills to utilise research findings to develop social work practice, knowledge and research.
- Develop high level strategies for communicating and developing research findings.
