Course overview
This course will enable students to develop specialised social work practice skills in a practice setting. Students will undertake supervised placement where they will develop specialised practice skills through the application of theory to a particular practice context. Students will utilise their skills as a reflexive practitioner to develop cognitive and technical skills in ethical reflection and decision making, professional relationship building, social work supervision and client engagement, intervention planning, implementation and evaluation. Students will examine the notion of social work as an agent of change at the individual and broader systemic level.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically analyse the values and ethics of social work in the practice setting
- Differentially engage with clients in specialised social work interventions that demonstrate the purpose of social work involvement
- Demonstrate competence to develop and critically reflect upon an intervention plan
- Effectively utilise professional supervision and demonstrate a reflective approach in the practice environment
- Articulate the implications of intervention and as a reflexive practitioner demonstrate an appreciation of the limitations of the intervention and the need for broader social change
- Meet the AASW Practice Standards to the required level.
