Course overview
This course will develop students' knowledge and skills in social work intervention, interviewing skills and group work required for professional practice with a diverse range of individuals, families and groups. Students will develop specialised professional knowledge of the social work practice skills in social work interviews and group work. Students will practice and apply these skills in diverse contexts by developing cognitive and technical skills in reflective accountable practice using ethical decision-making contexts.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate appropriate interviewing skills and analyse the different applications of purposeful social work interviewing and a range of approaches to group work with diverse clients, including Indigenous Australians and culturally and linguistically diverse clients.
- Critically analyse and demonstrate the stages of an interview and the skills and techniques used for ethical practice applied in each.
- Identify and demonstrate appropriate roles, skills and techniques relevant to group work.
- Demonstrate advanced skills to plan, lead and facilitate group processes and group outcomes using ethical approaches.
