Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop the advanced organisational leadership skills required to effectively practice as a social work professional in a diverse range of professional contexts. The students will develop advanced skills and knowledge in negotiating to achieve professional outcomes, inter-professional social work, working collegially in culturally diverse contexts, staff and volunteer management, managing adverse events, assuring service quality in project management, grant and tender writing, macro level lobbying and advocacy, communications planning and using and managing the media.

Course learning outcomes

  • Negotiate to achieve professional outcomes in interprofessional and culturally diverse workplace contexts
  • Appraise a range of organisational accountability situations and demonstrate the professional skills required in these situations
  • Construct and deliver performance enhancing feedback to volunteers or staff
  • Design a message for public communication and deliver this in political and media contexts
