Course overview
Students will develop an advanced knowledge of the social purpose of research, research design and qualitative methodologies. Students will learn how to write a research proposal and conduct a literature review.
Course learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate the purposes and application of a range of perspectives on social research
- Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the methodologies, basic logic, values, theories, concepts, principles and methods of social research
- Analyse the particular qualities of applied research
- Articulate the logic of research methods and designs, formulate research plans and select designs appropriate to their specific research problem(s)
- Interpret data from a variety of sources in the exploration and explanation of their identified research problem(s)
- Critically analyse ethical issues in the context of social research
- Formulate appropriate research designs related to the data generated from social work/community practice
