Course overview

This course will develop the student’s ability for autonomous professional social work practice and to strengthen strategies for continuing professional identity and development. Students will demonstrate professional judgement and ethical decision making in a changing context and will use an evaluation framework for critiquing social work practice at an individual, organisational, professional and societal level. The students will critically analyse the interplay between social work knowledge and professional social work identity; reflection and evaluation of one's own practice. Students will demonstrate their skills and ability to identify experiences of vicarious traumatisation and will develop self-protection strategies through maximising professional and peer supervision and managing workload. Students will develop skills in marketing oneself through preparation for social work employment and the development of curriculum vitae and building a social work portfolio highlighting the transferability of social work skills and knowledge across a range of fields of practice.
