Course overview
The aim of this course is to enable students to integrate advanced skills and to consolidate his or her professional identify and presentation as competent human services workers. Students will complete 280 hours in placement building on their professional identity through the development of learning objectives and by developing a working relationship with their supervisor. Students engage in reflective practice, identify their own professional pathways, and apply theory in practice, and manage their own workload. Exerting a positive influence in the workplace, student will establish credibility as a professional and manage culturally appropriate and collaborative relationships within their placement setting.
Course learning outcomes
- Analyse the social, policy and organisational context in which human service work occurs, in reference to the structure and functioning of the placement agency and apply this information in own work practices
- Work independently, competently and ethically in a human service agency
- Apply effective interpersonal skills in a work context and demonstrate culturally appropriate and constructive relationships with colleagues, consumers and other professionals
- Demonstrate ability to function as a reliable, contributory and credible member who earns respect in teams and partnerships
- Critically examine different roles, functions and responsibilities of workers within human and related services and demonstrate ability to assume and vary these appropriately
- Demonstrate flexibility, discretion, versatility and curiosity in a changing environment and critique own ability to cope with challenge and to take responsibility for own professional judgements and decisions
- Assess own levels of competence and appropriate professional developmental needs
