Course overview

In this course, students will develop at an advanced level a critical understanding of key contemporary issues and debates in sociology. Students will explore some of the central theoretical debates within contemporary sociology. The course first considers the ways in which classical sociological perspectives continue to find relevance in the contemporary era. The course then covers key strands of sociological inquiry which have recently emerged. Students will examine the innovative theories that sociologists have used to better understand how the contemporary social world operates.
