Course overview
Students will demonstrate computational skills in the acquisition and recording, handling, manipulation, analysis and visualisation of scientific data, together with ethics and ownership considerations.
Course learning outcomes
- Classify different data types for particular visualisation approaches and select the most appropriate to convey meaning
- Use commonly available digital tools to create appropriate graphics to visualise patterns in data
- Demonstrate mastery of foundational concepts in statistical thinking
- Critically analyse and improve data collection designs
- Explain the ethical and legal considerations for data ownership, possession, and use
- Develop foundational data platform skills specific to their study plan
