Course overview

Students will demonstrate computational skills in the acquisition and recording, handling, manipulation, analysis and visualisation of scientific data, together with ethics and ownership considerations.

Course learning outcomes

  • Classify different data types for particular visualisation approaches and select the most appropriate to convey meaning
  • Use commonly available digital tools to create appropriate graphics to visualise patterns in data
  • Demonstrate mastery of foundational concepts in statistical thinking
  • Critically analyse and improve data collection designs
  • Explain the ethical and legal considerations for data ownership, possession, and use
  • Develop foundational data platform skills specific to their study plan
