Course overview
This is a core course in the Graduate Certificate in Research Design intended to provide an opportunity to develop and apply advanced disciplinary knowledge and research skills through the development of a significant research proposal addressing a defined opportunity to extend knowledge, understanding or creative practice, working under the supervision of an experienced researcher in a selected disciplinary field. Starting from an identified contribution opportunity, students will develop, under guidance from a supervisor, a full plan for execution of the project, identifying objectives, methods appropriate for the discipline, required resources and planned outputs culminating in the completion of a comprehensive research proposal.

Course learning outcomes
- Identify appropriate and effective disciplinary methods to enable execution of a broadly specified research plan.
- Identify, and where necessary estimate, the resources needed to execute a research plan.
- Identify risks to the achievement of desired outcomes inherent in a research plan.
- Develop a comprehensive research plan, detailing research objectives, timeframes, methods, resources and risks, which would contribute to the body of knowledge or practice.
