Course overview

The aim of this course is to develop advanced knowledge and management skills in the operation and evaluation of a physiotherapy service. This course provides direct exposure to best practice principles in clinical physiotherapy, management, education and communication appropriate for provision of health care in musculoskeletal settings. Students will apply advanced clinical knowledge and skills in musculoskeletal practice across the lifespan. This course provides direct physiotherapy best practice experience of a health service delivery rehabilitation model. Under supervision, students will be required to organise and manage all aspects of best practice patient care including an evidence-based approach to clinical interventions, monitoring of progress using appropriate outcome measures, administration including appointments and ongoing referral and education using current interactive technologies.

Course learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate autonomy, judgement, adaptability and responsibility while progressing clients through a course of physiotherapy management including discharge with a self-management plan.
  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge and autonomy in management and administrative skills.
  • Critically apply a variety of reliable and valid clinical outcome measures.
  • Demonstrate evidence based practice through critical analysis, reflection and synthesis of therapeutic intervention information based upon current best research evidence, patient needs and values and past experience with similar clients.
  • Demonstrate advanced communication skills including the use of interactive technologies and expert interpretation and transmission of information and skills to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Demonstrate professional, culturally responsive and ethical behaviour required at entry level physiotherapist in the community practice setting that is consistent with Australian Physiotherapy Association's and Physiotherapy Board of Australia's codes, policies and guidelines.
