Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop specialised knowledge of the theory, assessment and management techniques for acute physiotherapy practice across the lifespan. Advanced knowledge of the pathology and psychosocial constructs of selected cardiorespiratory, orthopaedic and neurological conditions presenting across the lifespan in acute care settings.
Students will incorporate principles of clinical reasoning into the safe and effective application of assessment and management techniques appropriate for acute care settings.
Course learning outcomes
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the pathology and psychosocial constructs related to selected acute conditions across the lifespan.
- Demonstrate a critical knowledge of selected assessment and intervention strategies required for effective physiotherapy practice in the acute care setting across the lifespan.
- Demonstrate the safe and effective practice of selected assessment and management strategies for physiotherapy practice in the acute care setting.
- Apply clinical reasoning skills to accurately interpret physiotherapy assessment findings and plan and execute a safe and effective intervention in the acute care setting.
- Demonstrate professional, culturally responsive and ethical behaviour consistent with the Australian Physiotherapy Association, and Physiotherapy Board of Australia's codes, policies and guidelines.
