Course overview

The aim of this course is to prepare physiotherapists for advanced scope of practice. Construct and perform assessments and management in the context of advanced scope practice physiotherapy including medical screening, wound care, special populations (pediatrics and geriatrics), referral for and interpretation of medical imaging (CT and MRI, sonography), referral for and interpretation of pathology tests for musculoskeletal related disorders, relevant clinical pharmacology for musculoskeletal related disorders, effect of common comorbidities on patient examination and management

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply advanced Physiotherapy knowledge, skills and professional reasoning in the examination and management of patients relevant to a specific area of physiotherapy practice.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge/skills and critical reflection in the use of medical imaging and pathology tests in the context of advanced practice physiotherapy
  • Critically reflect on the use of therapeutic medicines in the context of advanced practice physiotherapy
