Course overview

The aim of this course is to provide opportunities for physiotherapists to apply and practice advanced knowledge, skills and clinical/ professional reasoning in examination and evidence based management of patient/client problems or issues relevant to musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice, and to develop advanced communication skills to their professional peers and relevant stakeholders. Acquisition and clinical application of advanced physiotherapy theory, practical and professional skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice and within an evidence based practice framework.

Course learning outcomes

  • Apply advanced knowledge and understanding of wellness, health promotion and preventative care relevant to musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice and their underlying biomedical, environmental and psychosocial constructs.
  • Examine patients/clients using advanced knowledge, skills and professional reasoning relevant to musculoskeletal physiotherapy clinical practice.
  • Manage patient/client health issues using evidence informed advanced knowledge, skills and professional reasoning relevant to musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice.
  • Demonstrate culturally responsive approaches to patient/client examination and management.
  • Demonstrate communication skills within the healthcare team and/or stakeholders, including recognition of the need for appropriate referral and ongoing consultation with other healthcare professionals or stakeholders, as indicated to promote wellness and manage existing health conditions.
  • Keep clear and concise records of physiotherapy practice.
  • Critically review the literature related to physiotherapy practice and present a clear summary and critique of a designated topic in appropriate scientific language.
