Course overview
The aim of this course is to develop the students' knowledge of the underlying biopsychosocial constructs of conditions of the neuromusculoskeletal systems and their skills in the assessment and management of the neuromusculoskeletal system (peripheral and vertebral). Assessment of a variety of peripheral and vertebral neuromusculoskeletal conditions; neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy practice: peripheral and vertebral neuromusculoskeletal management strategies and techniques, clinical reasoning within a biopsychosocial framework, medico-legal issues and record keeping.
Course learning outcomes
- Assess the appropriate components of the neuromusculoskeletal system and analyse the findings based on sound clinical reasoning skills
- Plan and apply the relevant safe and effective treatment including passive mobilisation, manipulation exercises, electrotherapy, preventative strategies and home management
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the physiotherapy intervention and modify or progress treatment based on sound clinical reasoning skills
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of neuromusculoskeletal conditions and their underlying biopsychosocial constructs
- Maintain accurate, concise patient records and communicate appropriately with other health care professionals and patients.
- Demonstrate professional, culturally appropriate and ethical behaviour consistent with Australian Physiotherapy Association's and Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency's Code of Conduct
