Course overview
The aim of this course is to support the student to develop a sound research proposal for an independent honours research project. Research principles and methodology including research questions, literature review and critique, sampling procedures and selection, qualitative and quantitative designs, variables, threats to reliability and validity, outcome measures and the role of ethics in research.
Course learning outcomes
- Formulate specific and appropriate research questions relevant to the research project.
- Review, analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge identified in the literature with intellectual independence.
- Clear and coherently apply the principles of subject selection as appropriate to the study.
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of quantitative and/or qualitative research designs.
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of the principles of reliability, validity and trustworthiness of data.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of measurement outcomes.
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of the role of ethics in research.
